A study of F-18 uptake to enamel, dentin and cementum by immersion application

Abstract
For the tracer study of the transfer of F-18 to teeth by immersion application, freshly .ycted tooth specimens that were divided into three main groups viz intact enamel, incipient and rampant caries were treated on the surface with .5ml. of Na F-18 solution with a vlty of 8.6 X 105 C.P.M./5ml., for one hour. he specimens that were immersed into NaF18 solution was allowed to dry for 5 utes, exposed Rinn X-ray film, (High speed film) D12.024.0 safety 512 for 24 hours ark room and made autoradiograph.
The results were as follows.
1. F18 were found by autoradiograph examination to penetrate intact enamel, enamel ects, lamellae and carious lesions.
2. Intact enamel was slightly penetrated as well as enamel cracks, fissures, and surface
3. The uptake of F18 on incipient caries was more densly penetrated than that of intact
4. There was considerable penetration along the dento-enamel junction, predentin area, entum region in turn on rampant caries.
